My UCAS Statement:
My first story was about an abandoned dog getting taken in by the fairies of the forest. It was short and simple but as time went on, I started to write about other writer's characters, like Hermione Granger. Media allows me to be creative, think about my own stories and characters for my own scripts. My parents thought it important to read and teach me about books and therefore I think I have such an intense and active imagination. Another thing I enjoy about media is the initial creating and producing of an idea through one concept and building it up through research and ideas. I enjoy writing my own stories and creating a world and painting the image of a different concept that people have never considered, giving my audience and myself a sense of escapism by transporting them to another world. I find the creative process therapeutic.
My main interest within Media is post-production, i.e.- editing, Foley and after effects I like working in a team and seeing a project come together and become a final product. Another reason I like post-production is the fact that it is making how the film, TV show or other media products fit the genre they were intended for, for example, in fantasy worlds the palette would be Pastel colours like pink, purple and blues to give a magical atmosphere and using a lot of small soft sounds to give it an innocent warm feel. The most recent project that I produced at college is a live multi-camera shoot. I decided that I was going to re-create an episode of Taskmaster. This was the first time I had used multiple cameras, had a proper crew and talent within my project. This really showed me the importance of working in a team, communication within that team and the significance of stepping up and taking the lead.
When learning Adobe, I wasn't on the current media course at that time and when I was, I learnt to home in on those skill within the lessons. I also learnt simple script and screenplay writing when I was young as I have always had an interest in writing. I am teaching myself sign language; I am drawn to the movement and wanted to open myself up to different ways of communication and this was something not many people decide to learn as they try to learn French which is different pronunciations, but sign language is using a completely different way to communicate.
I publish fantasy stories that I write online to gain an audience all over the world, but my primary demographic is in the UK and in America. I enjoy writing fictional stories with my own characters. I have worked and improved my own characters nearly every day. They have detail backgrounds, and a different background for different universe storylines they are in. They have arcs and I have researched mythology and created many different mood boards and simple storyboards for if it was ever to be put into production. The media industry involves teamwork, which is something I feel is one of my key skills. I have been working in retail since October this year which I have found has a lot of transferable skills. In my position as a personal shopper. I must be efficient while completing the job to the highest quality. I also am learning a lot about people skills by communicating with the customers and helping them in any way I could. This is much like getting the sound crew and the camera crew to communicate and getting them to benefit off each other. I was a peer support in my high school and I helped students with problems that they couldn't or didn't want to approach a teacher about. This was the start of myself taking in people's thoughts and feelings and using problem-solving skills and making sure the solution suited everyone involved. I decided to go on NCS over the summer as a new adventure and it was a really good experience for me. The main skill I took from NCS was adaptability; I faced unknown situations and had to come up with suitable solutions.
With everything I have achieved, I am ready to take a new step.
